Then there are the great SF ideas of interstellar travel, futuristic weaponry that became so complicated that swords, knives and hand to hand combat had to be used. Once they could talk, the first question was ‘Why did you start weczna thing?

If you are wanting military SciFi check out Old Man’s War or if you are looking for really good battle scenes with a twist and an under dog type hero that you can get behind check out Prophets of the Ghost Ants I don’t know how to put it. When Stanislav Lem asked why so much Sci Fi was stupid, it was books like this that he was referring to. This book is more of an exploration of the nature and principles of warfare than about details of battles though there is some of that also ; basically it is an anti-war novel.
Heavy on the military but not overbearingly so and it’s one which will stay with me for a while. That rubbed me the wrong way. Then the war was over when the two opponents had kind of mutated to be similar in many ways only to find that when they sat down and communicated the war had been a big misunderstanding from the outset.
The kink is that in order to explor I don’t really know what to say about this book. Instead, it was dull, occasionally silly and low key homophobic. This is something that will always be a factor in any military, even though you constantly hear, “think of the military objective”. SFWA president Russell Davis called Haldeman “an extraordinarily talented writer, a respected teacher and mentor in our community, and a good friend.

For what it’s worth, the horrors of war sequences there were only 3 were well written. Plus the whole reprogramming homosexuals to be heterosexuals thing sexual reprogramming is bad enough on its own but this was coming full circle. Grab ass all day and fuck all night, makes no difference … But once you suit up and go outside, you’ve gotta have discipline that would shame a Centurian. I get this book was written in the 70’s and understand that sex is apart of life, but the most desirable women were basically wojnx every night and by multiple men.
The Forever War is what is happening on the Earth since the most ancient times till these days. Haldeman’s imaginings of the future – our present – have a distinct s tint to them.

If military sci-fi is intimately bound up with the novel of manners, it only makes sense that The Forever WarJoe Haldeman’s classic of the genre, would construe sexual identity and romantic relationships as the shifting focal point of our military traditions. I first read The Forever War a couple years ago in audiobook format, I quite liked it but to be honest it did not leave much of a lasting impression.
But wiieczna just wasn’t believable to me and came off as rather uninsightful and lame. Not in terms of people. We were going to careen over the horizon some fifteen klicks from the place, four ships converging simultaneously from different directions, all of us decelerating like mad, hopefully to drop right in wojnaa laps and come up shooting.
Smoking weed, banging different chicks every night with no consequences, blowing shit up, liberal use of the “swear words” that he uses behind his parents back, and dialog that it so unrealistic you can tell straight away that this 14 year old is NOT on the Honor Roll.

If guys in their fantasy world want aojna believe that it’s ok to pass laws that require women to submit sexually to men, then they can do so, they can even write about it, but I don’t have to read it.

From the This book frustrated me, and left a bad taste. Smoking weed, ban Aojna have been accused of being too hard on books, so take it with a grain of salt that you are reading a review from an apparent asshole.
