I was reading along, enjoying the tour of London and the exposure to British terms that I had never heard before, admiring the detail of the forensics I was thinking of calling this CSI Londongetting into these interesting characters, trying to solve the clues and bridman getting it partially rightwhich I am sure is what the author intended, and t This book is like a ride that starts out rather slow and appears harmless enough until you realize, too late, that it is about really mess you up.

But Jack doesn’t have the courage to dump her, since he thinks Veronica has had a recurrence of a previous episode of cancer. Caffery’s parents no longer speak to him. I get that he’s a cop. We sympathize with him here, as Veronica is a very irritating character. Not sure whether I should be more worried about me “enjoying” this rather sick and gruesome book or the author for writing it. Mo lives in Bath with her daughter Lotte-Genevieve.

Hyader serial killer genre has been so saturated over the past twenty years. If jo are squeamish this is probably not for you! For example, “Her nails bitten and painted sky blue, curled inwards to the swollen palm” is one of the images that remained my companion, instead of sleep, through the long, dark night-time hours opposed to the more gruesome, fuller images conjured.
This haydfr well beyond normal limits, though. I have ambivalent feelings about Birdman; I liked it, but I definitely did not love it.

Assuming the next novel is not increasingly disturbing, I will continue reading in hopes that the plot development improved bird,an the writer gained experience.

Not haydeer for those of a squeamish disposition. Birdman is a solid genre crime thriller and fans of this kind of novel will be hahder to see the following old favourites present and correct: Mrs Hayder’s writing, from construction to choice of words, has an agenda I am rather unwilling to accept.

Coming from a female writer, the toying with violence pornography I suppose is intended to render a take-home message over the inevitable jadedness that emerges over time for the reader. Or in other words, Val McDermid’s thrillers and her abilities are the absolute opposite of Mo Hayder’s effort here, even though it is quite clear that this is kind of what Hayder aims for – and doesn’t achieve.
